چکیده

We measure the redshift evolution of galaxy bias for a magnitude-limited galaxy sample by combining the galaxy density maps and weak lensing shear maps for a ∼116 deg2 area of the Dark Energy Survey (DES) Science Verification (SV) data. This method was first developed in Amara et al. and later re-examined in a companion paper with rigorous simulation tests and analytical treatment of tomographic measurements. In this work we apply this method to the DES SV data and measure the galaxy bias for a i < 22.5 galaxy sample. We find the galaxy bias and 1σ error bars in four photometric redshift bins to be 1.12 ± 0.19 (z = 0.2–0.4), 0.97± 0.15 (z= 0.4–0.6), 1.38± 0.39 (z= 0.6–0.8), and 1.45± 0.56 (z= 0.8–1.0). These measurements are consistent at the 2σ level with measurements on the same data set using galaxy clustering and cross-correlation of galaxies with cosmic microwave background lensing, with most of the redshift bins consistent within the 1σ error bars. In addition, our method provides the only σ 8 independent constraint among the three. We forward model the main observational effects using mock galaxy catalogues by including shape noise, photo-z errors, and masking effects. We show that our bias measurement from the data is consistent E-mail: [email protected] C © 2016 The Authors Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of the Royal Astronomical Society at U niersity of Sssex on Jne 3, 2016 hp://m nras.oxjournals.org/ D ow nladed from 3204 C. Chang et al. with that expected from simulations. With the forthcoming full DES data set, we expect this method to provide additional constraints on the galaxy biasmeasurement frommore traditional methods. Furthermore, in the process of our measurement, we build up a 3D mass map that allows further exploration of the dark matter distribution and its relation to galaxy evolution.

Measuring the Galaxy-Galaxy-Mass Three-point Correlation Function with Weak Gravitational Lensing

We discuss the galaxy-galaxy-mass three-point correlation function and show how to measure it with weak gravitational lensing. The method entails choosing a large of pairs of foreground lens galaxies and constructing a mean shear map with respect to their axis, by averaging the ellipticities of background source galaxies. An average mass map can be reconstructed from this shear map and this wil...

Beating Lensing Cosmic Variance with Galaxy Tomography

I discuss the use of cross correlations between galaxies with distance information and projected weak lensing dark matter maps to obtain a fully three dimensional dark matter map and power spectrum. On large scales l . 200 one expects the galaxies to be biased, but not stochastic. I show that this allows a simultaneous solution of the full 3-D evolving galaxy bias and the dark matter power spec...

Comprehensive Two-Point Analyses of Weak Gravitational Lensing Surveys

We present a framework for analyzing weak gravitational lensing survey data, including lensing and source-density observables, plus spectroscopic redshift calibration data. All two-point observables are predicted in terms of parameters of a perturbed Robertson-Walker metric, making the framework independent of the models for gravity, dark energy, or galaxy properties. For Gaussian fluctuations ...

Weak Lensing from Space Ii: Dark Matter Mapping

We study the accuracy with which weak lensing measurements can be made from space, and the subsequent resolution of both 3-dimensional and projected 2-dimensional dark matter maps. As a baseline, we use the instrumental specifications of the Supernova/Acceleration Probe (SNAP) satellite. We compute the sensitivity to shear as a function of depth for space-based observations. Our predictions are...

Testing the lognormality of the galaxy and weak lensing convergence distributions from Dark Energy Survey maps

It is well known that the probability distribution function (PDF) of galaxy density contrast is approximately lognormal; whether the PDF of mass fluctuations derived from weak lensing convergence (κWL) is lognormal is less well established. We derive PDFs of the galaxy and projected matter density distributions via the Counts in Cells (CiC) method. We use maps of galaxies and weak lensing conve...
